There are two reasons that I am running for school board. First, education is the foundation upon which our society sits. That education goes beyond primary and secondary education. It includes vocational training, certificate programs, military training, and the various levels of university. There is not one post-secondary option that is right for every student, but every student in the Bellingham School District needs a path from where they are today to wherever they decide to go after graduation. I believe in this so strongly, that I have been a teacher in several different roles, which leads to the second point.
At my core, I am a teacher. I have taught in the software industry, in the evenings at a community college, and as a senior instructor at university. I appreciate the challenges, the rewards, and the specialty of the profession. More importantly, I respect the dedication and training of our teachers.
I am running for school board to help ensure that students are prepared for how they will live their lives and to support teachers in achieving that vision.
